Ergonomic Bulb Planter & Sod Plugger — Heavy-Duty Garden Tool
Product description
Side ejection for continuous use: The planter’s tube is cut and angled so soil plugs slide out through a side opening as you lift the tool. You don’t need to invert the unit to clear plugs; the design lets plugs drop away so you can keep digging holes quickly.
Closed slant, less clogging: A slanted, closed tube profile prevents dirt from packing inside. As you press and twist the tube the removed soil is expelled through the side opening instead of accumulating, reducing the need for frequent cleanouts.
What’s included and sizes: The package includes the main powder-coated steel tube, foam-padded ergonomic handle, foot pegs, and removable depth collars that let you set hole depth to roughly 2, 4 or 6 inches. The assembled height is approximately 33.5 inches for comfortable standing use.
Materials and durability: Constructed from rust-resistant, powder-coated steel for long service life, with welded foot pegs to assist entry. The foam grip cushions your hands and helps prevent blisters during extended use. Note: depth collars are useful for repeatable depths but can deform if used repeatedly in very compacted or rocky soil.
How to use and care: For easiest results, moisten the soil first. Step down, twist to cut the plug, then pull upward — the soil should exit the side chute. To refill, drop the plug back or use excavated soil. If a small amount of soil remains after a job, lay the tool on its side with the opening down to remove it. The product includes a 12-month warranty; contact the seller for replacement or refund within that period.

Looks sturdy but unused
Feels solid, though I haven’t tried it in the ground yet.

Hole narrower than I expected
Hole is about 1.75" wide. Tool is hefty so it won’t break easily, but it needs more than one connector screw to avoid wobble and a better eject step. Foam grips get dirty quickly.

Performs as advertised
Worked well overall. The hole was a touch tight for some tulips; rocking the tube a little helped. I liked the side chute for easy soil discharge.

Essential if you’re planting plugs or bulbs.

Simple to use
Chose it because it looked easy — and it is.

Sturdy and multi-purpose
Very solid for making plugs and transplanting small plants. Plugs are slightly smaller than commercial pieces but work well when alternating sites. The metal feels very robust — wish I’d had it for past bulb jobs.

Good build, depth collars need beefing up
Handy yard tool with good build quality. The depth discs could be stronger; on rock-hard ground they started to bend from impact, but otherwise very useful.

Footstep failed
One of the foot pegs bent while planting so I couldn’t use it and returned it for a refund.

Used for lawn renovation
I use it to improve lawn soil. Stepping creates roughly 4 cm by 10 cm holes to add fresh soil and aerate. Works faster than standard aerators, but the tip can bend on large stones. A bit pricey.

Best gardening buy this season
Easy to assemble and perfect for larger bulbs like tulips and daffodils — much better than kneeling with a hand shovel.

Back-saver for large bulb beds
Bought this to plant 170 bulbs because I can’t kneel. Assembles in minutes and I dug a dozen holes in about two minutes with no back pain. Side ejection keeps you going; a tiny bit of dirt can remain but tipping it on its side clears it.

Great for spreading Zoysia plugs
Perfect for moving Zoysia around the yard. Solid steel tube and foot pegs make it easy to push in and the taper pops plugs out cleanly. Placing plugs upside down in the new area worked well; results improved in cooler weather.
