MXTA27 Universal NMO Lip Antenna Mount — MicroMobile Compatible
Product description
Overview: The MXTA27 is a universal NMO lip mount designed to clamp to the edge of trunks, hatches or hoods so you can avoid drilling into vehicle metal. It installs between a lip and the body panel and stays in place using two adjustable set screws.
Connections and cable: A 6-meter (approximately 20 ft) cable is supplied to reach most dash-mount radio locations. The mount uses a UHF-style removable connector for the antenna feed that unscrews to ease routing. The package also includes a UHF-to-NMO adapter and an FME-to-UHF adapter, and the cable itself is a larger-diameter conductor intended for robust mobile use.
Compatibility: The MXTA27 is built to work with a wide array of Midland MicroMobile gear and compatible antennas, including but not limited to MXTA26, MXTA25, MXT105, MXT115, MXT275, MXT400, MXT500 and MXT575 models. Its universal NMO top makes it adaptable to many aftermarket stub and whip antennas.
In the box: You receive the MXTA27 lip mount with attached cable, the UHF-to-NMO and FME-to-UHF adapters, and an Allen wrench for tightening the set screws. All components needed for a standard installation are included.
Installation notes: The mount slips over the vehicle lip and is secured with the supplied set screws—no body modifications required. Installers commonly use a thin protective film between mount and paint to prevent marring, and the removable connector tip reduces the diameter when feeding the cable through tight grommets or firewall openings. The mount can be gently angled to match hood or trunk pitch for a flush appearance.
Pros
- No-drill lip mounting protects vehicle finish
- Includes 20 ft cable and two adapters
- Works with many Midland MicroMobile antennas
Cons
- Needs a reasonably deep lip to grip securely
- Set screws can loosen on rough terrain
- May require slight bending to sit perfectly flush
VerdictThe MXTA27 is a practical, no-drill antenna lip mount that simplifies vehicle installs while protecting paint and bodywork. Its 20-foot cable and included adapters make routing to the radio straightforward, and it pairs well with Midland MicroMobile antennas to deliver dependable transmit/receive performance. Expect to tweak the mounting pitch during install and recheck the set screws after heavy

Fast, simple install — big improvement
I moved from a cheap magnet mount to this lip mount on my 2005 Corolla (between the back glass and trunk) and the difference was clear. Paired with a Midland MXTA25 stub, I now get reliable simplex range over three miles in hilly terrain. Install took under ten minutes and the two set screws hold the mount firmly.

Perfect fit on Jeep Liberty
Looks tidy on our Jeep Liberty KK. Paired with a Midland ghost antenna and an MXT275 for a great overall setup.

Needs deeper lip to grip
Couldn’t get it to hold on my hood/trunk — it’s well made but wouldn’t clamp securely. Had to return it. This mount needs a substantial lip to work properly.

Sturdy mount, cable easy to feed
Simple to install and has stayed put through car washes. The removable cable end reduces diameter for firewall runs. I recommend blue Loctite on the small set screws and careful tightening on aluminum hoods to avoid dimpling.

Excellent build and cable quality
Unit arrived in retail condition and installed easily. I adjusted the pitch slightly using a screwdriver trick and the mount looks great. Cable feels higher quality—flexible and easier to route—and I’m getting consistent 50 W transmissions with my tuned Midland stub antenna.

Solid choice for GMRS or HAM
I have two of these on my hood—one for GMRS, one for a HAM tri-band compactenna. They perform well, though the bottom screws occasionally need retightening after rough off-road use. Tighten every few months and they work reliably.

Arrived early — very useful
Package arrived sooner than expected. Mount works very well and is handy for my mobile setup.

Good performance with minor tweaks
Once the set screws are tightened you may need to tweak the mount to sit flat. Used with a stubby Midland antenna, range covers my town and nearby areas. The removable plug made fishing the cable through my Jeep’s firewall straightforward.

Low profile, well-made, long cable
Bought this to replace the stock whip on my Tacoma. The hood mount fits well though there’s a small center gap; I added paint protection film under it. Routed the cable under the frame and up through a rear grommet—still had an extra foot or two for placement options.
