Edifier R1280Ts Powered Bookshelf Speakers — 2.0 Active Stereo Monitors
Product description
These are powered two-way bookshelf speakers housed in a wood-enclosed cabinet that emphasizes natural resonance and a classic look. Each speaker pairs a 4-inch woofer with a 13mm silk-dome tweeter to cover bass-to-treble frequencies with clarity. The system delivers 42 watts of continuous undistorted power, suitable for close-to-medium listening distances.
A dedicated subwoofer line-out is provided; when a compatible active sub is connected the speakers detect it automatically and engage an internal crossover to route low frequencies to the sub. Connectivity includes two RCA inputs so two sources can remain connected simultaneously, plus a 3.5mm-to-RCA cable is included for easy hookup to phones, computers and other devices. The package typically contains the powered pair, remote control, speaker cable, power cord and the necessary RCA/3.5mm leads.
On the control side, a compact remote handles volume and mute from across the room, while the active speaker carries side-panel knobs for bass, treble and master volume adjustments. There’s also a Sound Field (spatializer) button to broaden the stereo image. The wood cabinet, cloth grille and straightforward controls make these suitable for bookshelves, desktops, and casual studio-style near-field monitoring.

VerdictThe R1280Ts offer a strong balance of detail and warmth for near-field listening. Their natural-sounding mids and clear highs punch above their size, while the built-in sub out and auto-engaged crossover make adding low-end simple. Side-mounted EQ controls and a full-featured remote add everyday convenience. Ideal for desktops, small living-room setups, and vinyl rigs where affordable, powered boo

Fantastic PC audio, better with sub
Great value for computer audio. Adding a subwoofer improves the low end significantly.

Impressive sound for an event gift
I bought these as a present for a charity event and they sounded fantastic. The subwoofer compatibility and included remote are real pluses. For compact bookshelf speakers they delivered clear, punchy sound and were a hit at the gathering. Highly recommend.

Great desktop speakers with dual inputs
I use them on my desk and appreciate the two RCA inputs so multiple devices stay connected. Build quality and finish are very good, and they come with the cables you need. Plenty of volume for music and video. Only tiny gripe: the volume knob has no hard stop to show maximum.

High quality and durable — wait for a deal
I’ve owned mine for years and they still look and sound great. If you can, pick them up on sale for the best value. They’re reliable and satisfy non-professional listeners wanting quality sound.

Excellent for vinyl — warm and textured
Switched from a Bluetooth speaker to these for my turntable and the improvement was obvious. Vinyl sounded warmer with more texture and separation. Setup was simple and they really uplifted my casual listening sessions.

Very pleased — compact and balanced
I grabbed these on a promotion and they fit perfectly with my iMac and tablet. Build feels premium and the bass exceeded my expectations for the size. Best for close listening; they won’t need loud volumes in a small room but deliver balanced sound and a refined aesthetic.

Solid build, attractive wood finish
Arrived well packed and feel sturdy. I chose the walnut look and it matches my desk nicely. Driver layout is mirrored and neat, and rubber feet keep them steady. Connections and controls are intuitive; I used a small adapter to hook up a second source.

From frustrating return to full satisfaction
My first set arrived faulty and customer support wasn’t helpful, so I returned them. I ordered a replacement and the second set has been excellent — great fidelity and dependable daily use. They aren’t ear-splittingly loud, but the sound quality for work and music is superb.

Exceptional mids/highs, watch the bass
I’ve bought multiple pairs because the midrange and highs are almost audiophile-level for the price. However, the bass can be overly boomy on some tracks; dialing the bass control down noticeably fixes it. Build quality and finish are excellent, and the LEDs are subtle, not blinding.

Lovely little powered bookshelf set
Perfect for my new home office — powered, attractive faux-walnut finish, and simple connectivity with included RCA and 3.5mm cables. I like that they use standard speaker wire between units, which made wall mounting and routing easy. Sub-out is a nice future-proof option.

2020 refresh: Sub out and spatializer added
This release appears to be an updated take on the long-standing R1280 series. The most notable changes are the addition of a subwoofer output with circuitry that switches in a crossover when a sub is attached, and a stereo widening processing option with a remote toggle. Physically the drivers and cabinets match prior models, so sonic performance seems largely consistent with earlier units even if minor tuning tweaks may exist.
